What is upcycling?

  • Basically, we create brand new pieces from pre-loved clothing. We do our best to upcycle as much as possible. This helps keep clothing out of landfills, eliminates waste, and overall helps the planet. Please note that when upcycling clothing, not every item is going to be "perfect". Some items may be slightly distressed or have small imperfections. However, we believe this adds to the character and uniqueness of every piece, which is so rock n roll! And who doesn't love a perfectly worn-in feel? 

You really make everything?

  • Joan Jett the Cat and Kate are always working hard to come up with cool new, one of a kind pieces just for you. We make just about everything by hand. Bleach dying? Yep. Studding? Yes, duh. Leather fringe? Made that by hand. Distressing? Sure did (and Joan helped, obvi). Embroidery? Mhmm. That, too. We love details and we make everything with love and leftover teen angst.

When will I receive my order?

  • It usually takes 1-2 business days for us to process an order and get it ready to ship. It would be faster, but our lead assistant (Joan the cat) takes a lot of naps. 
  • Estimated delivery dates are available on each product page (so cool!). Exact shipping rates and times will be calculated by the robots at checkout.

I don't see exactly what I want - can you make me something?

  • Ummm... Absolutely! Just visit our Custom Orders page and tell us what you're looking for! We love custom orders and we'll do our best to make you something fabulous and one of a kind! 

What's up with the cat?

  • That's our cat/bestie/muse, Joan Jett. Named after... you guessed it... Joan Jett. She was adopted by Kate years ago, and was gracious enough to let us use her image in our logo.
  • She gives creative input, oversees orders, and generally bosses us around. She is a badass with an attitude, and fits in perfectly. You'd love her.  

The item I want is out of stock. Do you have more?

  • Most of the items we create are either 1 of 1, or limited edition... since we make everything by hand. If something you like is out of stock, send us an email at meow@badreputationnyc.com. We would love to re/create something similar just for you!

How do I take care of my cool new clothes?

  • Congrats - you're building the coolest wardrobe ever! In order to keep it that way, we recommend hand washing items inside out in cool water with a gentle detergent. Some garments are machine washable, like tie dyes and bleach dyes. You can also check the product page for specific instructions. 
  • For minor stains, spot clean with a damp cloth instead of washing the entire garment. This is especially important for items with embroidery.
  • Before hand washing, turn your garment inside out. This will protect any embellishments (studs, glitter, etc). 
  • Gently spot clean any stains with a mild detergent or stain remover before washing. 
  • Avoid rubbing directly on embellishments to prevent damage. 

What is your return/exchange policy?

  • Almost all items are eligible for a return.
  • We address each return personally, on a case by case basis. To start a return, please contact us at meow@badreputationnyc.com

Can I cancel or change my order?

  • We start working on your order as soon as we get it, so we may not be able to make any changes or modifications to an order after it has been placed and confirmed.
  • However, Joan Jett the cat takes a lot of naps, so there is a short window of time in which you can cancel or modify your order if you catch us in time. Please email meow@badreputationnyc.com as soon as possible.

Do you ship internationally?

  • Yes, we will ship all over the globe! Check out our Shipping Policy for more info.

What payment methods do you accept?

  • We accept the following forms of payment:
